Helps and Ideas
Q.
How do I get the letters on to my surface?
A.
The lettering comes pre-spaced with a transfer tape covering the whole quote. The letters stick to the transfer tape so that they can be applied evenly to the surface. Then the transfer tape is removed. Follow the simple instructions in the How to Apply Lettering section.
Q.
What surfaces will the vinyl work on?
A.
Vinyl letters will stick to any smooth surface such as painted boards, walls, metal, glass, mirrors, tiles, cars...
Q.
Can Vinyl letters be used outside?
A.
Our vinyl letters can be used outdoors. Some examples of outdoor use include car windows or car doors, outdoor equipment, mailboxes, store windows and banners. Our vinyl has a six year outdoor life. If applying vinyl to an outdoor surface, be sure that the temperature is at least 50 degrees. If the application surface is too cold, the vinyl will not adhere properly and will peel off.
Q.
How do I determine the height of my letters?
A.
The height of the lettering is measured from the top of the tallest letter to the bottom of the tails on the lower case letters.
Q.
What if I need to remove my lettering?
A.
Heat the vinyl with a blow dryer or heat gun. When it is warm, lift a corner and gently pull the lettering off. Be aware the some painted surfaces fade and the paint under the letters may be darker than the surrounding area. Also be aware that latex paint tends to have a loose surface bond and thus vinyl characters are more apt to slough off with aging of the paint. Also, if after a period of time the vinyl is removed, there is a tendency for small areas of paint to come off with the vinyl.
Q.
How long will it take for my order to be finished?
A.
Allow 2 to 3 business days for the order to be finished, and then 3 to 5 business days for shipment.
1. Prepare Surface If not a newly painted surface, clean so there is no oil residue and if available, rinse with isopropyl alcohol. Use a tape measure or ruler to determine the horizontal and vertical center lines of the space where the lettering will be placed. Mark these lines lightly with a water soluble marking pen, pencil or small piece of tape just outside of the area where you will place the lettering.
2. Prepare Lettering The lettering has a transfer tape that looks like masking tape on one side and peel-off backing paper on the other. Before peeling the back off, rub the surface of the transfer tape to insure the lettering is adhered solidly to the transfer tape. Measure to determine the horizontal and vertical center lines of the lettering. Mark these lines on the transfer tape on the top, bottom and sides. Be sure your measurements include the lettering space only and not the tape that covers it (It is ok to write on the transfer tape). 3. Application Place the lettering on the prepared surface. Match up the horizontal and vertical lines on the application tape with the lines on the pre-measured surface. Tape it in place across the center and at one end. Lift the transfer tape beginning at the untaped end until you reach the tape in the center. Cut the backing paper away and remove. Beginning in the center, press the transfer tape with letters attached onto the intended surface. Remove the center and end pieces of tape, and do the same thing on the other side. 4.Final steps Using a credit card or similar object, carefully press the lettering onto the surface starting in the middle and working your way out. Carefully remove the transfer tape by pulling the tape away at an angle. Do not lift the tape, but pull it back on itself. Press with your hands on the lettering again to be sure all of the letters have adhered properly.
